At BWH Hotels GB, we are committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility as part of our longer term business strategy. Our REST (Responsible, Environmental, Sustainable Tourism) scheme is designed in collaboration with Quality In Tourism to recognise and reward sustainability initiatives in order to:
- Attract new guests: as a survey of nearly 1,200 BW Rewards guests has revealed that two in three guests (67 per cent) say sustainability matters so much they’d pay more for a hotel with strong green credentials.
- Grow corporate business: sustainability credentials are becoming essential for securing corporate bookings with B Corps and meeting travel management company criteria.
- Commercial benefits due to cost savings.
Tracy Wilkins, Operations Director at BWH Hotels GB, said: “With such a broad network, we have a unique insight into what guests truly value when it comes to sustainability. We know guests are happy to pay more if they know food is locally sourced, for example, with nearly a quarter of recent BW rewards customers surveyed (23 per cent) willing to pay ‘moderately more’ to stay somewhere that is genuinely making an effort. We know sustainability is a priority for our hoteliers. But we understand how daunting it can feel to implement sustainable changes that comply with the Climate Change Act and the Environment Bill – especially with recent pressures like rising NI and minimum wage rates. That’s why, with our REST scheme and newly launched carbon calculator, we are aiming to simplify sustainability for hoteliers giving them practical, cost-effective solutions in minutes – whether it’s sourcing locally or adjusting energy usage to reduce carbon emissions.”
We are thrilled to reveal that nearly three quarters of our hotels have achieved either Green or Silver accreditation by implementing and documenting their sustainability initiatives, some of which are outlined below. Many more of our hotels are also currently in progress with their accreditations which is fantastic!
